Two-time Grammy winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned the lesson “if you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection” through more than his share of adversity - childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
Recently I got my hands on Lecrae’s book, ‘Unashamed’ and was immediately encouraged by and amazed at God’s redemptive power in His children, (that’s YOU). You know, it’s so easy to read the Bible and think that all of those stories of who Jesus is, and who God is and how He loves His people is just a thing of the past, as if what was true then cannot possibly be true now. But the reality is that the God of the Bible, is the very same God today, and most definitely tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8), as demonstrated through Lecrae and his testimony.
As you journey through the book, Lecrae will take you through his life, right from his earliest memories right through to the now. He really holds nothing back, sharing his deepest hurts and regrets, to his triumphs and joys. I really want to encourage you to get a copy of the book and have a read. Check out the video below, it’s a 9 minute snapshot of his story. You’ll get a glimpse of this once “misfit of a person” and see his transformation into his real identity in Christ.
“I’ve learned to stay close to my source of significance, to my source of worth….that’s God.”
Have you read or watched something by Lecrae that challenges you? Or maybe something you can relate to?
Sometimes I think that because I’m basically a “good” person, (I’ve never been arrested or had a problem with drugs or alcohol or made life changing bad choices), is God’s redemptive power available to me? Is God’s love that the Bible and Lecrae speak of for me? Or just those who really screw up?
We’d really love to connect with you and walk alongside you. Let us know what you’re thinking.
