    Psalm 91

    The Book of Psalms is becoming a favourite part of the Bible for me at the moment because of all its imagery. Lets take a look at one of the psalms we find quoted by an someone unexpected in the opening of Matthew 4 specifically verse 6.

    Psalm 91 starts with He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

    The image I want to bring out is one of a safe refuge, security and comfort. To rest in the shade of God because of His closeness is a comfort and to call him a trustworthy fortress are both realities for the one, according to the writer, who puts his trust in the Lord. The psalms use a lot of imagery language and this one really conveys a sense of true comfort when trusting in The Lord God.

    Have you ever felt like the psalmist feels? Like God can be a comfort to us and our security when all else gives way? Does it give you hope to know that God, though often described as just and righteous and holy, is also faithful to hear those who call on Him and even seeks to honour those who love Him. It’s not only written later in the psalm (verses 14 - 16) but in other places within God’s word also. Take a look at the following verses to see examples;

    John 14:11-18, John 14:27, Psalm 121, Proverbs 3

    Enjoy the psalms and we hope you’re enjoying growing deeper in your knowledge of God and all that He is and all that he has done.
