“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

You may have heard this story from the Bible before and thought that its a cute story but only applies to those in the building industry or as an analogy for people who have really messed their life up and are in jail or something similar. Have you stopped to think about how it actually applies to everyone, including you?

While Jesus gives some beautiful advice about good and bad foundations on building houses, he’s not actually talking about your house. Jesus was talking to the crowds and disciples  - the modern day application is for you and I. Not only is He talking to us, He’s talking about our lives, and the foundation we build our lives on.

Are you living your life however you please? Following your friends and trying to fit in, living how the media portrays what “good living” is? Or are you living your life with Jesus and his words as the foundation, living out the truth that you are loved and worth dying for and in response to that, living your life as Jesus calls you to.

What were your thoughts when you watched the video and read the passage above? Did you think it was obvious to not build your house on the sand? When you dig a little below the surface of yourself, what is the foundation you are building and then living your life on?
