The last part of the passage in Hebrews 11:1-6, is verse 6; “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him, must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Faith is non-negotiable, it’s foundational. The Bible says in the verse above that the two essentials of the Christian faith are 1) believe that God exists and 2) believe that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

As we mentioned last week, pursue a relationship with God. It’s easy to look at this verse and think that the only benefit to pursuing that relationship is that you’ll get rewards or blessings. That’s not what the writer of Hebrews is saying here. You can’t earnestly seek God if you’re expecting a reward. That’s not God’s heart for you. God’s heart is to know you, and to know you in the same  way that a father knows his son, or a mother knows her daughter - the joy and delight of celebrating life.

Did you know that heaven throws a party every time someone comes to faith in Jesus Christ?

“Our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.”

    - Augustine of Hippo (354-430), in Confessions.
