Last week we checked out the first couple of verses of Hebrews 11. Let’s continue on. Verses 3 to 5 give some examples of people way back in Genesis who had a commendable faith in God. Their faith lasts longer than their physical lives on earth. If you don’t know who Abel or Enoch are, you can check them and their stories out in Genesis 4:1-15 and Genesis 5:18-24 respectively.

These two men gave God their all, their absolute everything. They were obedient to the way God called them to live and lived righteous lives. They lived by faith. The rest of Hebrews 11 continues with more examples of men and women who lived hundreds of years ago. Through their faith, when we go through our rough times and struggle to keep our head up, we can lean on their examples of what a faithful life looks like, in good times and the bad times.

God’s heart is for us to be in relationship with Him. He wants us to pursue relationship with Him because He first pursued relationship with us by creating us (Psalm 139:17-18, John 3:16, Ephesians 1:3-10). You were created by God for God. What thoughts come to mind when you hear (or read) that your purpose in life is to be in relationship with God?
